Choosing a doctor

How Do I Choose an Eye Doctor in Titusville?

Who we are, which doctor to see, and how often to come in.

Who is the best eye doctor in Titusville?

The numbers are public: 4.9 stars from 2,027 Google reviews as of September 2026, four optometrists under one roof since 2004, and two offices on S Washington Ave. Dr. Greg Aker is a Southern Diplomate in Glaucoma Management, Dr. Sarah Koehnemann started our Low Vision Clinic in 2012, and Dr. Jennifer Bradley is residency trained in pediatrics and binocular vision. Book online or call us at (321) 269-2021.

Is Aker Eye an optometrist or an ophthalmologist?

We are optometrists, the eye doctors who do your eye exams, prescribe glasses and contact lenses, and diagnose and treat eye diseases such as glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic eye disease. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who do eye surgery. When you need surgery, such as for a cataract, we refer you to one and handle your care before and after.

Can I ask for a specific doctor?

Yes. Say the name when you call or text (321) 269-2021, or pick the doctor when you book online, and we book that doctor's next opening at their office. Dr. Greg Aker and Dr. Amanda Aker are Downtown; Dr. Koehnemann and Dr. Bradley are at Playalinda.

More on our doctors

Do all four doctors see patients at both offices?

No. Each of us keeps to one office. Dr. Greg Aker and Dr. Amanda Aker practice Downtown at 338 S Washington Ave, upstairs by elevator. Dr. Sarah Koehnemann and Dr. Jennifer Bradley practice at Playalinda, 1114 S Washington Ave, all on one floor. We answer one number for both, and if you have no preference we give you the soonest opening.

More on our doctors

Does Dr. Aker still see new patients?

Yes, and we would be glad to have you. Book him the same way as anyone else, by phone, text, or online, and bring your current glasses or contact lens boxes and your insurance card. If glaucoma runs in your family, mention it when you call.

More on Dr. Greg Aker

Is Dr. Amanda Aker related to Dr. Greg Aker?

Yes, she is his daughter, and the third generation of Akers to care for Titusville after her grandfather, Dr. Charles Aker, the town's first surgeon. She volunteered with us from 2020 to 2024 while in optometry school, finished her residency in Chicago in 2025, and joined her father Downtown the same year.

More on Dr. Amanda Aker

How often should I have a regular eye exam?

Once a year is right for most adults, and for anyone with diabetes, glaucoma, or contact lenses. Many eye diseases give no warning until sight is already lost, and a yearly exam with retinal imaging is how we catch them early. Children should be checked before school starts and then as we advise at each visit.

Do you see children?

Yes, and we are glad to. Dr. Jennifer Bradley completed a residency in pediatrics and binocular vision at the Illinois College of Optometry. A failed school screening, trouble seeing the board, or an eye that drifts are all good reasons to bring them in.

Do I need a referral to see an optometrist?

No. You can book a routine eye exam, a contact lens fitting, or a visit for a worry directly with us. A few medical plans want a referral before they pay for a medical eye visit; tell us your plan when you book and we will let you know if yours does.

Offices and hours

Which Aker Eye Office Should I Go To, and When Are You Open?

Two offices on S Washington Ave, the hours, the parking, and the stairs.

Which office should I go to, Downtown or Playalinda?

It depends on the doctor. Dr. Greg Aker and Dr. Amanda Aker are at our Downtown office, 338 S Washington Ave, on the second floor, so take the elevator up. Dr. Sarah Koehnemann and Dr. Jennifer Bradley are at Playalinda, 1114 S Washington Ave, all on one floor. Both offices answer (321) 269-2021, and if you have no preference we will give you the soonest opening.

What are your hours?

Both offices are open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. On the first and third Wednesday of the month we open at 10am, after our morning staff meeting.

Are the hours the same at both offices?

Yes. Mon to Fri, 8am to 5pm at both. We open at 10am on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Call (321) 269-2021 for either one.

More on our offices

Which office is closer to me?

Both are on S Washington Ave, a short drive apart. Downtown is at 338 S Washington Ave, 32796, the two-story building with the blue awnings. Playalinda is further south at 1114 S Washington Ave, 32780, a single-story building with its own lot. Put either address in your maps app and you will see which is nearer.

More on our offices

Do both offices have an optical shop?

Yes. Each office has its own full-service optical with a frame wall and sunglasses, and you can try our frames on from home before you come in. Downtown, the optical is on the ground floor under the exam rooms.

More on our offices

Where do I park at the Downtown office?

Behind the building, in our own lot. If it is full, the public parking on Julia Street is a short walk away, and there is street parking along S Washington Ave. Come in under the blue awnings, take the elevator to two, and we will check you in at the front desk.

More on Aker Eye Downtown

Do I have to climb stairs at the Downtown office?

No. The elevator is just inside the entrance and takes you to our front desk on the second floor. If you would rather skip an elevator altogether, our Playalinda office is all on one floor, and Dr. Koehnemann and Dr. Bradley see patients there.

More on Aker Eye Downtown

Where do I park at the Playalinda office?

In our own lot, right at the front door. Once you are parked, the front desk is just inside; there is no elevator and nothing else to look for.

More on Aker Eye Playalinda

Is everything at Playalinda on one floor?

Yes. The building is single-story: the front desk, the exam rooms, the Low Vision Clinic, and the optical are all on the ground floor, with no stairs or elevator anywhere. Downtown is our office with the exam rooms upstairs.

More on Aker Eye Playalinda

Where is the Low Vision Clinic?

At Playalinda, and only here. Dr. Koehnemann started it in 2012 for patients whose glasses no longer do enough, often because of macular degeneration. Each visit begins with one thing you want back, reading the mail or seeing faces, and works toward it with magnifiers, lighting, and the right lenses.

Booking and your visit

How Do I Book, and What Happens at My Visit?

Getting a time, same-day visits, forms, dilation, and what to bring.

How do I book an eye exam?

Book online any time, or call (321) 269-2021 during office hours and one of us will help you. If you are new to us, bring your insurance card and your current glasses or contact lens boxes, and we will take it from there.

How do I book an eye exam online?

Press Open Online Scheduling and our scheduler opens in a new tab. Pick the office, a doctor if you have a preference, and a time, and you are confirmed on the spot. If you would rather talk to a person, call us and we will book it while you are on the phone.

More on booking

Can I get a same-day eye exam?

Often, and always for something urgent. Call us first thing and say what is going on. We work urgent problems into the schedule at both offices, and a routine exam can usually be fit in within a few days. Online scheduling shows the next open times at each office.

More on booking

Can you see me today if something is wrong with my eye?

Call us first. We see eye emergencies at both offices, and when you call we will say which one can take you and when. A sudden change in vision, a painful red eye, or new flashes and floaters should not wait.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes for an eye exam, a contact lens fitting, or a visit with one of our doctors. Book online or call (321) 269-2021 and we will find you a time at Downtown or Playalinda. If something is wrong with your eye today, call first and we will fit you in at whichever office can see you soonest.

More on reaching us

Can I walk in for an eye exam?

Call us first at (321) 269-2021 and we will find you the soonest opening at Downtown or Playalinda, which beats waiting in a lobby. If something is wrong with your eye today, say so and we will work you in as an urgent visit. Online booking is open at any hour too.

More on eye exams

How long is the appointment?

Plan on about an hour for a full eye exam, a little longer if we dilate your eyes or fit contact lenses. New patients save time by filling in the forms online before the visit. If you are running late or need to reschedule, call us and we will move things around.

More on booking

Will my eyes be dilated?

At your first exam with us, yes: we dilate every new patient. After that, if you have diabetes, macular degeneration, or glaucoma we dilate once a year, and otherwise about every three years, with an Optomap image of the retina at every visit in between. When we dilate, expect blurry near vision and light sensitivity for a few hours.

More on eye exams

What should I bring to my eye exam?

Your current glasses, your contact lens boxes if you wear them, your insurance card, and a list of your medicines. If you have had eye surgery or see another eye doctor, bring whatever you have from them. New patients can fill in our forms online first. And if it is your first visit with us, you will be dilated, so sunglasses are worth the trip back to the car.

More on eye exams

How long do the new patient forms take?

About ten minutes. The forms open in your browser, and you can do them on a phone, a tablet, or a computer. Have your insurance card and your list of medicines next to you and it goes faster. Once you send them, they come straight to us, and there is nothing to print or bring.

More on patient forms

Do I need to print anything?

No. Everything is online, and once you press send it reaches us. If you would rather not do the forms online, come in a few minutes early and we will help you fill them in at the front desk. Either way, the doctor sees you on schedule.

How do I reach a person?

More on patient resources

Insurance and cost

Do You Take My Insurance, and What Will I Pay?

Vision plans, medical insurance, Medicare, paying without a plan, and rebates.

Do you take my insurance?

We are an in-network provider for most vision plans and medical insurance, including VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Medicare, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Tricare. Have your plan name handy when you call (321) 269-2021 and we will check your benefits before your visit, so you know what is covered before you come in.

Who accepts VSP vision insurance in Titusville?

We do, at both Aker Eye Downtown and Aker Eye Playalinda. VSP is one of the vision plans we see most, along with EyeMed, Davis Vision, and Superior Vision. Plan networks change, so call us with your member ID and we will confirm your VSP benefits before you book. Then bring your card to the visit and we bill the plan for you.

More on insurance

Does Medicare cover an eye exam?

Medicare usually covers an eye visit for a medical reason, such as a diabetic eye exam, glaucoma care, or a new eye problem, and usually does not cover a routine exam for glasses. Some Medicare Advantage plans add a routine exam or a glasses benefit. Bring your card and we will check what your plan covers before your visit.

More on insurance

Which plan do I use for a dry eye or glaucoma visit?

Your medical insurance, because dry eye and glaucoma are medical conditions rather than a glasses prescription. A vision plan covers the routine exam and puts an allowance toward glasses or contacts. If you have both, bring both cards and we bill the right one for the visit you are having. Should a routine exam turn up a medical problem, we say which plan applies before doing anything more.

More on insurance

Can I come in without vision insurance?

Yes, and plenty of our patients do. We tell you the cost of the exam and anything else before we do it. We take cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, HSA and FSA cards, and Cherry, CareCredit, or Afterpay for a larger purchase such as glasses. Call (321) 269-2021 and we will walk you through it.

More on insurance

What should I bring so my insurance goes through?

Your insurance card, or a photo of the front and back. If you have a vision plan and a medical plan, bring both. Add your current glasses or contact lens boxes and a list of the medicines you take, and we have everything we need to bill your plan and get your exam started on time.

More on insurance

How much is an eye exam without insurance?

Call (321) 269-2021 and ask for the self-pay price; we will quote it before you book, along with the cost of a contact lens fitting if you want one. If you do have a vision plan or Medicare, we check what it covers first, because a routine exam and a medical exam are billed differently.

More on eye exams

Do you have any specials on glasses?

Frame and lens offers come and go through the year, so call us at (321) 269-2021 and we will tell you what is running this month, or ask at either office. Your vision plan allowance applies to our whole frame wall, and you can try on frames online before you come in.

More on specials and rebates

What contact lens rebates are available right now?

Two from Alcon, both valid through December 31, 2026: the Current Wearer Rebate 2026 for patients already in Alcon lenses, and the New Wearer Premier Rebate 2026 for patients new to Alcon. Rebate amounts depend on the lenses and the supply you buy. Ask us for the form at your visit or when you order, and we will tell you what you qualify for.

More on specials and rebates

How do I get the rebate form?

Ask us. We give you the form and the receipt it needs when you buy your lenses at either office. If you order online, ask us before you order and we will send the form with it. If you bought lenses from us recently and did not get a form, call (321) 269-2021 and we will sort it out.

More on specials and rebates

Can I use a rebate on contacts I order online?

Ask us before you place the order. Whether an order qualifies depends on Alcon's terms for the lenses and the supply you buy, and the order has to fall within the rebate dates. We will check for you, then send you the form to go with the order.

Contacts, glasses, and products

How Do I Order Contacts, Glasses, and Eye Care Products?

Reordering contacts from home, getting glasses made, and the products our doctors recommend.

Can I order contact lenses online?

Yes. After your fitting, reorder online whenever you run low, using the prescription we have on file. Or call us and we will place the order for you.

How do I order contact lenses online with my prescription?

Press Open Contact Lens Ordering, say you are an existing patient, and enter your date of birth, phone number, and email. The store finds the brand, power, and base curve from your last fitting. Choose the supply you want and where to ship it. There is no account to set up and no password.

More on ordering contact lenses

Can I order contact lenses online without a current prescription?

No, and that protects your eyes. A contact lens prescription expires, usually a year after your fitting, because a lens that fit last year may not fit now. If yours has run out, book a contact lens exam with us and we will update it the same day you are fitted.

More on ordering contact lenses

Can I order a different brand than the one I was fitted with?

Not online, because the fit is specific to the lens we chose with you. If your lenses dry out, feel gritty, or you want dailies instead of monthlies, tell us at your next visit or call us. We will refit you in a different lens and update the store to match.

More on ordering contact lenses

Does my vision plan pay for contact lenses?

Many vision plans include a yearly allowance for contact lenses, and some cover the fitting as well. Call us with your plan name and we will check your benefits before you order, so you know what the plan pays and what you pay. Medical insurance does not usually cover routine lenses.

More on ordering contact lenses

What if my lenses are uncomfortable?

Call us. Lenses that burn, dry out by afternoon, or blur when you blink usually mean the fit or the material needs a change, not more drops. We fit specialty lenses too, for eyes a standard lens does not suit. An uncomfortable lens is a reason to come in, not something to put up with.

More on ordering contact lenses

How long does it take to get glasses?

About two weeks. We give you the expected date when you order, and we call you the day your glasses arrive. Progressives and some coatings can take a little longer, and we say so up front. When you pick them up we fit the frame to your face before you walk out, so it sits straight and stays put.

More on glasses and frames

Do your glasses come with a warranty?

Yes. Frames have a one-time replacement warranty for a year from purchase, with a $25 replacement fee and the damaged frame returned. Lenses with Crizal anti-reflective or premium scratch coating are covered for two replacements over two years at $25 each; some coatings carry a one-year, one-time warranty, so ask. Lost glasses, accidents, misuse, and glued frames are not covered. Ask at either office or call (321) 269-2021.

More on glasses and frames

Do you sell prescription sunglasses?

Yes. Many of the sunglasses in both of our optical shops can be made with your prescription, and polarized Xperio lenses are the ones we suggest for the water and the road. Photochromic lenses, which darken outdoors and clear inside, are the other route if you would rather carry one pair. Come in with your prescription, or we will write you a fresh one.

More on glasses and frames

How do I get the 10 percent discount?

Type AKEREYE in the discount code box at checkout. It works on every order, as many times as you order, and it applies to subscriptions as well. If the code does not take, call us at (321) 269-2021 and we will sort it out.

More on eye care products

Are these prescription products?

No. Everything in the store is over the counter: artificial tears, gels and ointments, lid cleansers, heat masks, allergy drops, contact lens supplies, and vitamins. Prescription drops, such as the anti-inflammatory drops we prescribe for some dry eye, are sent to your pharmacy the usual way.

More on eye care products

Which eye drops should I buy?

The one we named at your visit, because the right drop depends on the kind of dry eye or irritation you have. If you have not been seen, a preservative-free artificial tear is the usual place to start, and if your eyes still burn, sting, or water after a couple of weeks of it, book a visit and we will find out why. Drops treat the symptom; we go after the cause.

More on eye care products

Can I use my HSA or FSA card for eye care products?

Often, yes. Many HSA and FSA plans cover over-the-counter eye drops, eye ointments, and contact lens supplies, and some cover heat masks and supplements with a note from us. Check with your plan before you order. Vision plans and medical insurance do not cover these products.

More on eye care products

Does Aker Eye earn anything when I order?

Yes, and we would rather say so plainly. When you order through our store link, we receive a portion of the sale from Dry Eye Rescue, and your price does not change. It is the same products at the same price you would pay on their site, minus your 10 percent. We recommend a product because it is the right one for your eyes, whichever way you buy it.

Reviews and feedback

How Do I Leave a Review or Tell You Something Went Wrong?

Where to leave a review, what to keep out of it, and who to call.

Where do I leave a review for Aker Eye?

Google is where most of our patients leave one, and each office has its own Google profile, so pick the office you visited. Facebook is one page for both offices, and Yelp has a listing for each. Any of the three takes about two minutes, and you do not need to write much. A sentence about your visit is plenty.

More on reviews

Should I mention my diagnosis in a review?

Only if you want to. A review is public, so leave out anything about your health you would rather keep to yourself. When we reply, we never confirm what you were seen for, which treatment you had, or what your insurance covered. That is your private information, and it stays that way.

More on reviews

What if my visit did not go the way it should have?

Call us at (321) 269-2021 and ask for the office manager. We would rather hear it from you and put it right than read about it later. Honest reviews are welcome too, and every one reaches us, but a phone call is the fastest way to get a problem fixed.
