Park at the visitor center
The Titusville welcome center lot usually has room and is a short walk from our door. Street parking runs along S Washington Ave too.
Look for the blue awnings
We are the two-story cream building with sky-blue awnings. Come in through the door under them.
Frames on the ground floor
Our full-service optical is right inside the door: the frame wall, sunglasses, and someone to fit them. Pick out frames on your way out.
Elevator to the second floor
The elevator is just inside the door. Ride up to two and check in at our front desk. The stairs are there if you would rather walk.

Who practices at Aker Eye Downtown?
Father and daughter share the exam rooms upstairs. Dr. Greg Aker is our glaucoma specialist and co-manages cataract and LASIK surgery. Dr. Amanda Aker trained in primary care and ocular disease, so she takes an urgent problem as readily as a yearly exam. If you would rather see Dr. Koehnemann or Dr. Bradley, they are at our Playalinda office.

Titusville born, the son of the town's first surgeon, and the doctor who started our practice. He has looked after his neighbors' eyes for more than 40 years, and glaucoma is his specialty.

The third generation of Akers to care for Titusville. She worked our front desk and our frame inventory through optometry school, trained in primary care and ocular disease in Chicago, and now shares the Downtown exam rooms with her father.

What can I come to the Downtown office for?
Dry eye treatment is the one thing we do only Downtown. The meibography imaging, the light therapy unit, the IPL, and Optilift are all upstairs here, so every dry eye visit is booked at this office. Everything else, from comprehensive eye exams and contact lens fittings to kids' exams, urgent visits, and glaucoma care, happens at both offices.

What is the story behind our building?
Frederick A. Losley, a Swiss immigrant, put this building up in 1888 as Losley's Saloon and Billiard Parlor, with the ten rooms of the Alpine Hotel upstairs. A fire took it in 1895, and he rebuilt it where it stood.
An optometrist named G. L. Mandaville saw patients here part-time in the 1930s and 40s, so we were not the first eye doctors at this address. Dr. Greg Aker opened our practice in the building in 2004, and he has seen patients upstairs ever since.
Walk into the lobby and you meet the family. The hospital portraits of Dr. Charles Aker, Titusville's first surgeon in 1958, and Laura Aker, a nurse anesthetist at the same hospital, hang there beside his stethoscope. In the early days he took payment in eggs and dinner plates, and once in miniature ponies. They are Dr. Greg Aker's parents and Dr. Amanda Aker's grandparents.

Do I have to climb stairs at the Downtown office?
No. The elevator is just inside the entrance and takes you to our front desk on the second floor. If you would rather skip an elevator altogether, our Playalinda office is all on one floor, and Dr. Koehnemann and Dr. Bradley see patients there.
Do you take my insurance at the Downtown office?
Most plans, yes. We work with most vision plans and medical insurance, including VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Medicare, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Tricare. Give us your plan name when you call (321) 269-2021 and we will check your benefits before you come in, so there is no surprise at the desk.
Do I need to fill out new patient forms before I come in?
It helps. Our new patient forms take about ten minutes online, and having them done means we can bring you back sooner. If you would rather do them on paper, come up ten minutes early and we will have a clipboard ready.
Can I get dry eye treatment at the Downtown office?
Yes, and only here. The meibography imaging, low-level light therapy, OptiLight IPL, and Optilift are all upstairs at Downtown, so every dry eye visit is booked at this office with Dr. Greg Aker or Dr. Amanda Aker. Tell us it is for dry eye when you call and we will book the right kind of visit.
