Walk in and our front desk is just inside. Exam rooms, the Low Vision Clinic, and the optical are all on this floor, with nothing to climb and no elevator to wait for.
Who practices at Aker Eye Playalinda?
The two doctors at Playalinda each brought a specialty with them. Dr. Sarah Koehnemann is residency trained in ocular disease and low vision, and the Low Vision Clinic she started in 2012 runs out of this office. Dr. Jennifer Bradley's residency was in pediatrics and binocular vision, so when a child fails a school screening, she is the one to ask for. Dr. Greg Aker and Dr. Amanda Aker are at our Downtown office.

A fifth-generation Titusville native who shadowed Dr. Aker in high school, trained in eye disease and low vision at Bascom Palmer and in New York, and came home to start our Low Vision Clinic.

What can I come to the Playalinda office for?
The Low Vision Clinic is only at Playalinda, with Dr. Koehnemann. The rest is the same as Downtown: comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, glasses from our own frame wall, kids' exams, urgent visits, and medical eye care for glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetes.

Eyes that burn, sting, or water by the afternoon are usually dry eye, and our dry eye treatment is Downtown, where the light therapy and Optilift equipment is. We can book it for you from here.
What was our building before it was an eye office?
Before it was an eye office, 1114 S Washington Ave fed people. The building went up in 1965 as the Holiday House Restaurant, known around Titusville for its hand-carved prime rib. Later it was the Fly Fisherman, a sportsman's shop.
Today it holds our newest office: exam rooms, the Low Vision Clinic, and an optical with its own frame wall, all on the one floor, with our lot out front.
The name is the beach east of town. Dr. Greg Aker learned to surf at Playalinda when he was eight, and he still paddles out when the waves are good.

Yes. The building is single-story: the front desk, the exam rooms, the Low Vision Clinic, and the optical are all on the ground floor, with no stairs or elevator anywhere. Downtown is our office with the exam rooms upstairs.
Do you take my insurance at the Playalinda office?
Most of them. We work with most vision plans and medical insurance, including VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Medicare, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Tricare. Tell us your plan when you call (321) 269-2021 and we will check your benefits before you come in. Medical insurance usually covers a low vision evaluation; the devices are paid separately.
Should I fill out new patient forms before my Playalinda visit?
Yes, if you can. The forms take about ten minutes online and save you the wait at check-in. Low Vision Clinic patients also get a welcome packet from us once the appointment is set, so look for it before you come.
Where is the Low Vision Clinic?
At Playalinda, and only here. Dr. Koehnemann started it in 2012 for patients whose glasses no longer do enough, often because of macular degeneration. Each visit begins with one thing you want back, reading the mail or seeing faces, and works toward it with magnifiers, lighting, and the right lenses.
