Dr. Aker grew up in Titusville as the son of Dr. Charles Aker, who became the town's first surgeon in 1958, and Laura Aker, a nurse anesthetist at the same hospital. He finished optometry school in 1984 and came straight home. He practiced at Optoworld and the Florida Eye Clinic before opening our practice in 2004, in the building on S Washington Ave where he still sees patients.
Glaucoma is where his training runs deepest. He is a Southern Diplomate in Glaucoma Management and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, so a pressure check or a change in your drops happens with him in Titusville, not in a waiting room out of town. He has also co-managed more than 2,000 LASIK surgeries and the recovery of more than 4,500 surgical patients.
Dr. Koehnemann first followed him from room to room as a high school student in 2002, and now practices at our Playalinda office. His daughter, Dr. Amanda Aker, grew up at our front desk and joined him in the exam rooms Downtown in 2025. Patients say the same two things about all three: the exam is thorough, and the doctor explains what they found before you are out of the chair.
He learned to surf at Playalinda Beach when he was eight and still surfs it, pier 5 on a good morning.
