Dr. Amanda Aker is Dr. Greg Aker's daughter, and she learned our practice from the lobby first. From 2020 to 2024, while in optometry school, she volunteered here: shadowing her father, running the frame inventory, and answering the phones. She joined us as a doctor in 2025. Patients already say the same thing about her that they say about him: no question is too small.
Her residency at the Illinois College of Optometry was primary care and ocular disease: a full year of routine and urgent exams for every age, managing corneal ulcers, uveitis, glaucoma, retinal tears, and diabetic eye disease, and working with ophthalmologists, neurologists, and emergency physicians on the cases that needed them. At the end of it the college gave her its Primary Care and Ocular Disease Resident Award.
She graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry with highest honors and took the school's award for the highest national board score in patient assessment and management. Her externships were with the Indian Health Service in Bethel, Alaska, and The Eye Institute in Melbourne, Florida. She is certified to fit MiSight, MoonLens, and Paragon CRT, the myopia control lenses for children whose nearsightedness keeps climbing, and she speaks clinical Spanish.
Before optometry she was a professional figure skater, performing in the ice shows at SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa, and she coached skating for six years.

Mon to Fri, 8am to 5pm, both offices. We open at 10am on the first and third Wednesday of the month.
Call us first at (321) 269-2021, whichever doctor you end up with. Every one of us sees urgent problems, and Dr. Amanda Aker spent her residency year at the Illinois College of Optometry on exactly this: corneal abrasions, infections, retinal tears, and sudden changes in vision. She is at our Downtown office. When you call, we will say which office can take you soonest.
