Downtown is the two-story building with the blue awnings, with Dr. Greg Aker and Dr. Amanda Aker upstairs. Playalinda is our newer office a little further south, all on one floor, with Dr. Koehnemann and Dr. Bradley. One number reaches both, and we will book whichever suits you.

Which office should I go to, Downtown or Playalinda?
It depends on the doctor. Dr. Greg Aker and Dr. Amanda Aker are at our Downtown office, 338 S Washington Ave, on the second floor, so take the elevator up. Dr. Sarah Koehnemann and Dr. Jennifer Bradley are at Playalinda, 1114 S Washington Ave, all on one floor. Both offices answer (321) 269-2021, and if you have no preference we will give you the soonest opening.
What are your hours?
Both offices are open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. On the first and third Wednesday of the month we open at 10am, after our morning staff meeting.
Do you take my insurance?
We are an in-network provider for most vision plans and medical insurance, including VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Medicare, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Tricare. Have your plan name handy when you call (321) 269-2021 and we will check your benefits before your visit, so you know what is covered before you come in.
Is Aker Eye an optometrist or an ophthalmologist?
We are optometrists, the eye doctors who do your eye exams, prescribe glasses and contact lenses, and diagnose and treat eye diseases such as glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic eye disease. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who do eye surgery. When you need surgery, such as for a cataract, we refer you to one and handle your care before and after.
How often should I have a regular eye exam?
Once a year is right for most adults, and for anyone with diabetes, glaucoma, or contact lenses. Many eye diseases give no warning until sight is already lost, and a yearly exam with retinal imaging is how we catch them early. Children should be checked before school starts and then as we advise at each visit.
How do I book an eye exam?
Book online any time, or call (321) 269-2021 during office hours and one of us will help you. If you are new to us, bring your insurance card and your current glasses or contact lens boxes, and we will take it from there.
Can I order contact lenses online?
Yes. After your fitting, reorder online whenever you run low, using the prescription we have on file. Or call us and we will place the order for you.
Do you see children?
Yes, and we are glad to. Dr. Jennifer Bradley completed a residency in pediatrics and binocular vision at the Illinois College of Optometry. A failed school screening, trouble seeing the board, or an eye that drifts are all good reasons to bring them in.
Can you see me today if something is wrong with my eye?
Call us first. We see eye emergencies at both offices, and when you call we will say which one can take you and when. A sudden change in vision, a painful red eye, or new flashes and floaters should not wait.
